Revision planned for Kadin law
A number of business leaders and legislators are considering proposing a revision of the 1987 law on the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in a bid to help lever up the productivity of the nation’s industries.
A member of the House of Representatives Commission VI overseeing agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries, Bomer Pasaribu, said that the current law was old fashioned and provided for government domination of the promotion of productivity and the economy.
“We may say that Indonesian industrial productivity is the worst among ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members,” he said Tuesday after a meeting between Kadin and representatives of the national productivity institution (LPN).
Bomer said however that a concrete proposal on the revision would be discussed during next month’s Kadin national meeting.
“We hope to see Kadin become a prime mover in promoting national productivity and working through productivity promotion networks and programs, under the new Kadin law,” he said. — JP/Mustaqim Adamrah
