New regency idea meets challenges
TANGERANG: The idea to separate several northern districts from Tangerang regency to form a new regency has been challenged by the public.
The latest challenge came from Teluk Naga district Saturday, bringing the total number of districts that reject the formation of a North Tangerang regency to nine.
“Many residents are not even aware of the idea,” said Subur Maryono, chairman of the district Village Representatives Body (BPD), who organized a public discussion on the proposal.
Other districts affected by the plan are Kosambi, Sepatan, Rajeg, Pasar Kemis, Sukadiri, Pakuhaji, Koronjo and Kemiri.
During the discussion, residents agreed that the districts did not have the required infrastructure and human resources to gain independence from Tangerang regency.
“We will collect as many signatures as possible from the residents of the nine districts that rejected the idea,” Subur said. — JP
