Negligence leads to house fire
BULELENG: A house on Jl. Imam Bonjol in Banjar Bali, Buleleng, was razed by a fire on Tuesday morning after the owner forgot to extinguish the stove when he left home.
I Made Sukarsa, 49, admitted to have forgotten to put out the traditional wood-fired stove before he went out.
The fire was first spotted by Sukarsa’s neighbor Gede Sukrawijaya, who then asked for help from nearby people to extinguish the fire.
However they were unable to put it out, with a host of flammable goods inside the house fueling the out-of-control blaze.
“The neighbors panicked when they saw black smoke billowing from the house. It only came under control after firefighters got here,” Sukrawijaya said.
Three fire trucks were deployed to the site. No one was home at the time of the blaze, and no casualties were reported.
The case, including estimates of the damage done, is being investigated by the local police. — JP
