Jakarta fire tally up by 3 in 2 days
JAKARTA: One fire broke out Thursday in Central Jakarta after two others in the city occurred on Wednesday.
On Thursday a house caught on fire in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta. The blaze burned down dozens of other houses nearby. The fire was still burning in the afternoon, detik.com reported.
Neighbors worked hand-in-hand to stop the fire by throwing water from the sewer on it. The seven fire trucks sent could not work efficiently because they had trouble maneuvering around the neighborhood’s narrow lanes.
The police reported two fires called in Wednesday, both citing electrical short circuits as causing the fires.
One house burned in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, another in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta. Nobody was hurt in either event.
Jakarta has contended with 39 fires between Sept. 23 and Oct. 6. — JP
