Gatot replaces Ridwan in DPRD
SURABAYA: The provincial legislative council (DPRD) unanimously agreed Monday to appoint Gatot Sujito, a legislator of the Golkar Party, as their new chairman.
Former chairman Ridwan Hisjam resigned in May in order to run for vice governor with Sutjipto, a legislator of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), in the inaugural gubernatorial elections. The pair were defeated in the election recently.
Gatot’s election was confirmed in a plenary session presided over by the provincial legislature chairman Fathorrasyid in Surabaya on Monday.
Lambertus Mayong, chairman of the Golkar faction, was also nominated but retracted his candidacy just minutes before the election.
The provincial legislature also received four new councilors from the PDI-P to replace those sacked after defecting to the Reformed Democratic Party (PDP). The new councilors were Harsono Puspo Asmoro, Hesty Setiarini, Eddy Wahyudi and Himawan.
Unlike the sacked councilors, Fathorrasyid maintained his position despite defecting from the National Awakening Party (PKB) to the Nahdlatul Ummah Awakening Party (PKNU). — JP
